How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Background, through law school
After four years of teaching math and science in New York City high schools, including The Dalton School, I ventured to St. Louis University in Missouri for law school. There a clinic funded by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission allowed me to intern for Louis Gilden, who had argued McDonnell Douglas v. green. Stimulating.
And motivating. A clinic classmate and I produced an entire issue of the law school’s law journal to memorialize the first ten years of Title Vii of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. We were able to encourage civil rights leaders, lawyers, and politicians to contribute articles.
And my life’s profession was established.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
This firm’s focus is to provide legal services to employees who have been subjected to unlawful discrimination by their employer. Federal law prohibits an employer from harming its employees/potential employees because of their race, sex, national origin, age or religion. It further protects them from mistreatment due to a disability, or in response to whistleblowing or pointing out unlawful discrimination. Numerous other protections established by Congress exist.
