Baja California-inspired rooftop bar and restaurant for cocktails, beer & Tex-Mex snacks.
Cortez is a rooftop bar in DC that specializes in delicious Mexican food and drinks. Our menu consists of Mexican and American dishes and we have a delicious dinner menu available from Wednesday to Sunday evenings. As a popular tequila bar in DC we offer our customers a great menu, delicious meals, and a wonderful atmosphere - complete with a rooftop view.
Located at 1905 9th Street NW, Washington, we are open from Wednesdays to Sundays, closing around midnight on most evenings. We offer a delicious dinner menu, including mouthwatering tacos and a variety of drinks to complement the evening.
Recently launched, customers can look forward to a frozen margarita machine behind the rooftop bar in DC, to serve delicious drinks complete with colorful straws. Beers will still be available in cans and bottles.
The vibe is a casual one, and the owners describe it as "fast-casual, full alcohol". Visitors can order drinks and food at our well-stocked bar located in the 50-seat dining room. The rooftop is open for drinks only, and tacos can be added in warmer weather. Servers will deliver food to numbered tables and the opening menu consists of five tacos, homemade salsas, and snacks, such as guacamole and ike elote street corn. We aim to keep things simple at first, and then grow our menu and drinks over time.
Delicious Food and Drink
Cortez will serve food only on the main dining level at first. We have a small one-page menu available at the moment, and dishes include guacamole, salsa, and various types of tacos. One example is our cochinita pibil, which is braised shoulder pork with citrus, avocado, green cabbage, and salsa habanero. We also have a beer-battered fish taco.
Customers won't believe that this funky, colorful dining room and rooftop bar in DC used to be 1905. Cortez specializes in getting you just a little tipsy with our tequila, while munching on our delicious tacos. We believe our menu is definitely worth celebrating!
Our popular beer-battered fish taco tastes of San Diego. Our delicious fish comes topped with lime mayo, as well as beautifully decorated pickled red cabbage, and Fresno chili slices. The cochinita pibil tacos are packed with flavor and satisfying, and don't overlook the skirt steak taco either. It features medium-rare meat and a kick from two salsas.
About Cortez
Cortez aims to be the new two-story drinking destination that was previously home to a previously dimly lit restaurant. We have completely redone the establishment with whitewashed brick walls, funky lighting, and many coastal-inspired colors. We have named our tequila bar in DC after the Sea of Cortez along the eastern coast of the Mexican peninsula.
We went all out to make sure that we get the artwork just right and flew in a very talented graffiti artist San Francisco to complete two murals. To make things a bit unique, the names of Team Cortez's family members and friends are inscribed into the artwork.
If you are looking for affordable Shaw bars with a great atmosphere, look no further than Cortez. We aim to be the leading rooftop bar in DC with service and cuisine to match.
